Summer EBT participants are reminded to use benefits before expiration
North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) is reminding households participating in the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (S-EBT) program, also known as “SUN Bucks,” to use their benefits before they expire.
Households have 122 days to use their S-EBT benefits from the date they are issued. Because issuance dates vary, households will have different expiration dates. The earliest issued benefits will expire Sept. 25.
Once benefits expire, they are removed from the S-EBT card and cannot be replaced.
“Since we began issuing benefits in May, nearly 44,600 S-EBT cards have been provided to households with eligible children,” said HHS Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Director Dawn Brossart. “We want households to know, that they can still use these benefits, but they must be used before they expire.”
The S-EBT program provides food assistance to eligible households with school-age children. It helps families cover food costs during the summer, when children do not have access to school meals. Eligible families receive an S-EBT card for each child, with $120 in benefits that can be used to buy groceries during the summer. More information about S-EBT can be found at hhs.nd.gov/s-ebt.
This program is a partnership between the HHS, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Administration.
